Mike is a workplace/industrial relations lawyer with expertise in industrial relations negotiations, bargaining, and dispute resolution in the construction, mining, LNG and manufacturing sectors.
He also advises clients from the retail and transport sectors on employment related matters including contractual drafting and interpretation and discipline and termination issues. Mike provides workable business solutions that focus on advancing his clients’ commercial position.
He has negotiated many collective agreements on behalf of his clients in highly unionised environments and industries. His clients value his ability to explain to their staff, in straightforward terms, the legislative requirements of enterprise bargaining and agreement options.
Some of Mike’s experience includes advising large multinationals in the LNG & construction space on workplace strategies to control labour cost and limit lost time due to industrial action. He has also negotiated enterprise bargaining agreements and other business solutions with the coal mining unions for a number of major coal mining companies.
He advises clients on business restructures and takeovers including managing the redundancy process and all legal issues surrounding termination of employment. Mike’s experience working in-house (Master Builders Association, Anglo Coal & Kentz) assists him to provide practical and commercial advice to his clients. Mike has a Masters Degree from UWA in labour law and industrial relations and a Law Degree from UNSW.
Mike is admitted to practice in WA, QLD, ACT and the High Court of Australia.
