1 The challenge

Knowing legal mattered, but not where to start

Jasdip founded Abilitix in Sydney to build governed AI products for regulated industries, with a strong focus on trust, auditability, governance and privacy. As a bootstrapped founder driving everything end to end, he knew he’d need legal engagement soon but wasn’t sure how to go about it. The moment he had his first paying customer — and conversations turned to intellectual property — it became clear he needed proper legal foundations, not just AI-generated drafts he hoped were right.

"

We didn’t know where to start. The moment we had a first paying customer and there were discussions on IP, it became very clear we needed legal engagement.

2 The solution

Draft fast with AI, review with a lawyer

For Jasdip, the most valuable part of Lawpath has been speed and ease of use: the AI helps him draft solid documents quickly, and he can then book a lawyer to review them. When he needed an IP review of his terms and conditions and a beta testing agreement for a paying pilot — with unclear IP ownership and an overseas customer — he used the AI to work through the gaps, then booked a meeting. Getting a view grounded in NSW law gave him the comfort to respond to the other party with confidence.

"

The AI helps me draft documents quickly, and I can get appointments booked with lawyers. For an early-stage startup, that’s a great combination.

3 Impact & growth

From hoping it’s right to knowing it is

Relying on AI tools alone had always left Jasdip with a nagging worry about whether he was covered. With Lawpath, he’s become far more proactive — getting reviews done well in advance instead of leaving things to the last moment. Rather than juggling separate documents for each of his three products, he worked with Lawpath to create a single master document for the whole portfolio. The result is peace of mind for a lean, bootstrapped team.

"

I’ve become much more proactive. Instead of assuming things or leaving them to the last moment, I get the review done well in advance.

4 Future aspirations

From pilot to paying clients, on solid foundations

As Abilitix moves its products from pilot stage to paying clients, Jasdip is building it into a governed AI platform for regulated industries — with Lawpath providing the legal foundation underneath. That lets him focus on what matters most now: sales and distribution, leaving the specialist work to the experts.

"

My advice is: don’t wait until legal becomes a problem. Start simple, build from there, and get started as early as you can.
