What it actually costs

Debt collection agencies charge on commission, usually 15–30% of recovered funds, sometimes higher on aged debts. That model works for high-volume, low-value consumer debt, but it's the wrong shape for commercial debt where the strategic decision needs a lawyer's judgement, not a call-centre script. A Lawpath Account Manager reviews what you've sent and will usually call you to confirm the details and ask for any documents you haven't uploaded yet. Your brief is then allocated to a Lawpath lawyer based on their experience and capacity in intellectual property.

Your allocated lawyer prepares a fixed-price quote for the work you've described, and may contact you if they need more detail before quoting. You'll receive one quote, from one Lawpath lawyer.

STEP 4

Hear back in 1 business day

Your quote arrives with the lawyer's profile, experience and a plain-English scope. If you're happy, accept and we begin.

STEP 5

Work delivered

Once you accept, your payment is held in Lawpath's statutory trust account under the Legal Profession Uniform Law and is only released to your lawyer once the work has been delivered to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to file a trademark in Australia?

Two costs. The Lawpath lawyer fee is $499 + GST for the application drafting, class advice and examiner correspondence. The IP Australia government fee is $330 per class (standard) or $400 per class (Headstart).

What's the difference between an IP lawyer and a patent attorney?

Patent drafting and prosecution can only be done by a registered patent attorney under the Patents Act. Trademarks, copyright, IP agreements and IP disputes can be handled by an IP lawyer. Lawpath handles the trademark and IP agreement work in-house; we refer patent work to a registered patent attorney.

How long does a trademark take to register in Australia?

IP Australia’s published minimum is around 7.5 months from filing to registration, assuming no adverse examination report and no opposition. Headstart filing shortcuts the pre-examination check but doesn’t change the overall registration timeline.

Can Lawpath help with a trademark opposition?

We handle pre-opposition advice, cease-and-desist correspondence and negotiation. Formal opposition proceedings before the Trade Marks Office are handled by specialist IP counsel we work with and refer to.
