1 The challenge

Setting up the right structure — without the board or the big bills

Rob set out to launch a youth rider-safety organisation, but the not-for-profit path he first considered demanded a rigid structure — including finding three board members, which proved difficult. To get the flexibility he needed, he moved to a social enterprise and wrote a constitution that blended two different models. Verifying that constitution the traditional way looked daunting: often $1,500 to $2,000 up front, with another consultation fee every time changes were needed and no certainty about ongoing costs.
