Liat is a Special Counsel in the personal injuries group. She mainly helps clients who are injured at work or through medical negligence. She also has experience in transport accident and public liability claims. With over ten years experience exclusively in personal injuries litigation, she has a demonstrated passion for this area of law. She finds particular satisfaction in helping vulnerable people through a system that often hinders them. She has had multiple articles published in the Law Institute Journal.
Liat is experienced across all Victorian civil jurisdictions having run cases for work injuries in the Magistrates’ Court, County Court and Supreme Court including damages trials for negligence. She has also had experience at appellate level in the Victorian Court of Appeal.
In addition to her work injury practice, her medical negligence practice is varied and extensive. She has been involved in cases dealing with birth trauma, delayed diagnoses, poor surgical outcomes and claims for families who have lost loved ones through medical negligence. She also has experience assisting families through coronial inquests. Her depth of knowledge in this area has allowed her to develop an ability to deal simultaneously with the emotional challenges of this area of law and medically and legally complex issues in order to give her clients compassionate but considered advice.
