1. Get qualified

Visit your local licensing department to apply for the necessary mechanic licenses. The type of license required will vary based on the service you will provide. If you will be offering a range of services then you may need several licenses. The Department will provide you with the necessary information to ensure that you are qualified. 

2. Register your Business

You will now need to register for an Australian Business Number (ABN). This is a unique eleven-digit number that enables you to run your business in Australia. As part of the process, you will need to come up with a unique business name that best encapsulates you and what your business will offer. Once your ABN is processed you can then register for GST and PAYG. 

3. Marketing

 Your marketing scheme/s are a critical component to your business’s succession. This is because it is highly likely that this will be the first point of contact that customers will have with your business. As a mobile auto repair business, customers will want a quick and reliable service that will get them back on the road as soon as possible. It is therefore important that your marketing strategies appeal to these needs. As a start-up business, you may choose to focus your advertising efforts online. This is a cost-effective approach and ensures that most consumers will find you when they need help with their car. This may be done through a range of outlets, such as creating a website, having an Instagram page and/or registering for the Yellow Pages and True Local. 

4. Cost Focus

An important factor is deciding the cost of your services. In determining your price, you must look into your competitor’s charging rates. Ideally, the cheaper your services the more inclined customers will be to contact you. However, you must be careful not to make your services too cheap for two reasons. Firstly, you need to make sure that you are making a profit. Secondly, you do not want customers to assume that your prices are low because the quality of your services are compromised. This is why research is ideal. 

Moreover, try to incorporate niche services into your business. This will appeal to consumers and will enable you to choose your cost price since these services will be unique to your business.

5. Know your Legal Obligations

Aside from the registration of your business, there are a number of other legal considerations that you must be aware of. This includes tax liability, marketing rules and contractual obligations when hiring new employees.
